The Western Boone High School cross country team competed at the IHSAA Regional meet at White River Elementary in Noblesville on Saturday morning (10/19). The Stars ran well in a meet that featured top state-ranked teams such as Bishop Chatard, Brebeuf, Carmel, Cathedral, Noblesville, North Central, and Westfield.
Colton Collier ran very strongly and finished 20th in a personal best time of 16:15. His time moves him up to #3 on the school’s all-time list. By virtue of being among the top ten runners from non-advancing teams, Collier advanced to next weekend’s semi-state meet as an individual. Senior Caden Baird also ran strongly in the final cross country race of his high school career. He finished in 88th place in 18:33, just four seconds off his lifetime best.
Leading the way for the girls’ team was Audrey Knoper who improved her school record by another 12 seconds to finish in 18:41. She finished 13th, which was the school’s highest-ever finish by a female runner at the regional meet. Knoper also advanced to next weekend’s semi-state meet as an individual. Katheryn Rutherford ran very well, too, and finished in an excellent time of 19:56 in 52nd. Sydney Haag also ran strongly and was 60th in a very good time of 20:28. Rounding out the scoring team were Emma Mitchell in 87th in 23:14 and Naomi Reid in 88th in 23:17. Hannah Haag was 89th in 24:29, and Bekah Truby was 90th in 25:47. As a team, the Lady Stars were 10th with 241 points.
Collier and Knoper will compete next Saturday at the IHSAA Semi-State meet in Shelbyville.
