LINDEN — For the third time in four seasons, the Western Boone boys tennis team won the Sagamore Conference title.
The Stars easily dispatched North Montgomery 5-0 on Monday afternoon to finish conference play 6-0 and win the outright title.
“It’s great for the guys,” Western Boone head coach Dustin Cunningham said. “It goes to show that when you put in the work, make the effort and like each other, you can accomplish great things. The great part about this stretch for us is that it isn’t just one class who came through, won everything, and left. Multiple classes and groups have contributed and that shows the strength of the program.”
But he was pleased with the focus of the team and how they took care of their business.
“We knew if we played our style of tennis like we have all year, we would be in good shape,” Cunningham said. “The guys came out and did what they had to do to start off a busy week for us.”
At No. 1 singles, Keith Dobbs topped Hunter Kashon 6-0, 6-1. At No. 2 singles, Tyler Brunty topped Carter Livingston 6-0, 6-0 and at No. 3 singles, Zach Collins topped Brookes Walters 6-1, 6-0.
At No. 1 doubles, Chase Lee and Aidan Smith defeated Will McKinniss and Ben Eldridge 6-1, 6-0 and at No. 2 doubles, Harrison Fields and Kaden Landers topped Haze Kashon and Hayden Turner 6-0, 6-2.
The Stars are back in action today against Fountain Central.
“I like having a busy week before the sectional,” Cunningham said. “We had a really light week last week in case of rain outs, and at this time of the year, practices become a little redundant. So I like how we have a lot of matches to get in a rhythm before the sectional.”
