The Western Boone Junior High Cross Country teams raced at the Terre Haute Savings Bank Invitational on Saturday. Running on a nationally recognized course in mid-day heat and with a strong field of runners, the boys team finished 9th of 11 teams and the girls finished 5th of 8 teams.
Even though neither team had all of their tops runners at their best, several personal records (PRs) were achieved in all races. For the Lady Stars, this started with the team’s top runner Bailey Haag, who finished in 13:20 (16th place). Also having great PR runs were Bethany Martin (15:05 – 42nd), Charlotte Stucky (15:25 – 46th), Brooklyn Boss (16:23 – 56th), Bailey Keyes (17:06 – 60th), Charity Shelton (18:28 – 70th), Katherine Mateika (20:23 – 73rd), and Summer McCormick (22:28 – 77th in JV race). As a team, the girls improved by just over 11 minutes.
Just like Haag, the Stars’ boys team had their top runner, Lane Hardee, have a fabulous meet by running a PR of 11:23 allowing him to receive the only medal of the day finishing in 7th place. Other tremendous efforts proved PR worthy for the team. Those runners were Luke LaGrange (13:04 – 61st), Carter Hanna (13:28 – 66th), Dragan Sherwin (17:45 – 88th), and Keaton Deane (22:13 – 92nd). Two other Star runners had strong runs narrowly missing their PR times – Collin Washburn (12:30 – 42nd) and Landyn Hardee (13:43 – 67th).
The Stars’ next race is at home against the Speedway Sparkplugs on Tuesday starting at 5:00 pm.
