Boys Middle School Cross Country, Girls Middle School Cross Country · Stars open their season up in 4-team meet


The Western Boone Junior High Cross Country teams opened up their season on Wednesday with a meet at Crawfordsville against 3 Sagamore Conference rivals – South Montgomery, Tri-West, and Crawfordsville. The evening’s great running weather benefited the Stars with great beginning of the season race times. The boys race had the Stars end up in front with Crawfordsville in 2nd place, South Mont in 3rd and Tri-West in 4th.  The Lady Stars were just 1 point behind 2nd place Tri-West. Crawfordsville won the girls race with South Mont finishing 4th.

The Stars boys were lead by 3 returning runners, Lane Hardee (8th grade) and Collin Washburn (7th grade) and Graham Cavins (8th grade). All 3 had excellent times & places. Hardee finished with a 12:00 time in 3rd place, despite a knee injury, and Washburn was close behind in 4th with 12:20, while Cavins finished ninth in 13:12. WeBo also has 4 new runners that are going to help make for a strong team, all making an excellent showing Wednesday night & helped to propel the Stars to victory. With 3 being 6th graders & 1 as a 7th grader, the future looks promising. 3rd on the team was Isaac Threlkeld in 12:23, Luke LaGrange had 13:17, Alex Crockett finished with 13:19, and an injured Landyn Hardee had 13:33. Other strong opening runs were had by Carter Hanna (13:30) & Dragan Shervan. 3 boys already have qualifying State Meet times – Lane H., Collin W. and Isaac T.

Also having several returning leading were the Lady Stars – Samantha Jones (8th grade), Bailey Haag (7th), Emily Parsons (8th) & Rosie Rogers (7th). Jones and Haag battled it out, but Jones ended up being the lead runner for the team finishing in 4th place (13:43) and Haag in 6th place (13:51). Both girls have now qualified for the State Meet. With strong perfomances and helping the team to a good start, Parsons finished in 14:42 (14th place) and Rogers in 15:41 (24th place). Several 6th graders are showing great potential as the season continues – Charlotte Stucky, Janelle Gearheart, Brook Boss, Bethany Martin and Bailey Keyes. 

The Stars’ next race is at the Sheridan Invite on Saturday, August 31. The boys’ races starts at 9:00 am and the girls’ race will be at 9:30 am.
