Stars watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 10-0 loss to Speedway on Monday. Speedway scored on a single by Brady Pennington, a single by Aidan Bishop, and a single by Cole Hedrick in the first inning.
The Stars struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Speedway, giving up ten runs.
Speedway got things moving in the first inning, when Pennington singled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs.
One bright spot for the Stars was a single by Peyton Young in the first inning.
Brandon Willoughby earned the victory on the mound for Speedway. He lasted three innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out seven and walking zero. Bishop threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Elliott Young took the loss for Stars. He surrendered seven runs on 11 hits over four innings, striking out three.
Young, Josh Benson, and Brett Wethington each collected one hit to lead Stars.
Speedway racked up 11 hits on the day. Ryan Stutler, Pennington, and Hedrick all managed multiple hits for Speedway. Stutler led Speedway with three hits in three at bats. Speedway tore up the base paths, as three players stole at least two bases. Pennington led the way with three. Speedway was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Pennington had the most chances in the field with nine.
The Stars will look to bounce back tonight as they host the visiting Tri-West Bruins starting at 5:30 pm.
