Thursday’s game against Lebanon was a heartbreaker for Stars, as they lost the lead late in a 10-8 defeat. The game was tied at six with Lebanon batting in the top of the fifth when Jonathan Moore drew a walk, scoring one run.
Despite the loss, Stars did collect eight hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Lebanon had eight hits on the way to victory.
Lebanon opened up scoring in the second inning when Moore homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.
Stars scored four runs in the fourth inning. Star batters contributing to the big inning included Elliott Young, Adam Konz, and Brett Wethington, who each had RBIs in the inning.
Michael Reese toed the rubber for Lebanon. He lasted five innings, allowing seven hits and six runs while striking out eight.
Tyler Brunty was on the hill for the Stars. He surrendered seven runs on four hits over four and a third innings, striking out five. Young threw two and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Lebanon socked two home runs on the day. Moore went yard in the second inning. Reese went deep in the first inning.
Stars racked up eight hits on the day. Josh Benson and Brunty each collected two hits to lead Stars.
Lebanon had eight hits in the game. Reese and Ryan Nastav each had multiple hits for Lebanon.
The Stars JV team traveled to Lebanon Thursday evening and came home with a 22-12 in 6 innings of play. Blake Culley and Mitch Miller had a strong combined pitching effort in the win. Elliot Rice led the offense with 4 hits.
The varsity team will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday April 13th for a double header against the Sheridan Blackhawks starting at 10:00 am and 12:00 pm*. The JV team will be back in action Monday, April 15th as they travel to Clinton Prairie for a 5:00 pm start.
