At Crawfordsville, Western Boone advanced five wrestlers to the regional and placed sixth as a team with 82 points.
The Stars only had eight wrestlers competing, but will be sending more than half to the regional.
“We had seven kids place today and five move on to the regional, so it was a really good day for Western Boone wrestling,” head coach Wesley Mikesell said. “We were able to stay aggressive and out-worked our opponents. We are well conditioned, and it showed today because we out-worked everybody.”
He lost in the semifinals 13-6, but after pinning Alex Brown of Crawfordsville in the consolations, he pinned Wyatt Bible of Fountain Central for third.
At 145 pounds, Dylan Small also placed third. He won his opening match, but fell in the quarterfinals to eventual champion Shane Bates. He then won two consolation matches to advance, before topping Crawfordsville’s Clayton Owens 7-6 to place third.
Jacob Fennell also placed third at 152 pounds. He lost 6-2 to eventual champion Mathew Mangus in the semifinals, but won two matches in the consolations, including a 9-0 decision over Anthony Cook from Crawfordsville.
“It is huge not only here for placing, but for regionals to give yourself a better draw,” Mikesell said of placing third. “It was huge for them to get those wins.”
Jaden Bailey advanced by placing fourth at 138 pounds and Robby Taylor advanced by placing fourth at 170 pounds for the Stars.
Mikesell said the Stars won’t by changing anything as they get ready for the regional.
“We are just going to continue to work on our technique and conditioning,” Mikesell said. “What we are doing is working, and we are just going to keep going with it.”
