The 7th grade Lady Stars basketball team opened their season Wednesday evening at home hosting Sheridan. In what was a close game throughout the night, the Lady Blackhawks prevailed by two points in overtime, defeating the Stars, 22-20.
The Stars had a balanced scoring attack with Stefanie Dickerson leading the way with 9 points. Grace Miller and Alayna Christner each finished with 4 points a piece. Christner also led the way with 7 rebounds and Miller paced an opportunistic defense that forced several Blackhawk turnovers, finishing with a pair of steals and blocked shots. Jazmine Bowling and Cheyenne Isenhower rounded out the scoring while Isenhower also pulled down 6 rebounds and notched 2 steals.
The 8th grade Lady Stars opened up the game with an 8-0 run. The Blackhawks battled back to cut the lead to 14-9 at halftime. With a collaborative effort the Stars came out with an explosive second half to pull out the win with a final score 35-18. Emmy Roys led the way with 13 points, 6 steals, and 7 rebounds. Emily Conyer contributed 8 points and 5 steals, while Macy Woodrum also added 8 points along with 3 steals.
The Lady Stars will be back in action next Thursday as they host the Lebanon Tigers starting at 6 pm.
