The Western Boone H.S. cross country team competed at the IHSAA Regional meet at White River Elementary in Noblesville on Saturday, October 13th. The Stars ran well in a meet that featured top, state-ranked teams such as Brebeuf, Carmel, Cathedral, Noblesville, North Central, and Pike.
Audrey Knoper ran an exceptional race and improved her school record by another 40 seconds. She finished 23rd in 19:07. By virtue of being among the top ten runners from non-advancing teams, Knoper advanced to next weekend’s semi-state meet as an individual. Sydney Haag ran an excellent race, too, cutting 24 seconds off her time to earn a new personal best of 20:54 in 64th. Jordan Randolph ran her fastest time of the season, finishing in 22:35 in 89th.
Leading the way for the boys’ team was Colton Collier who finished 39th in a personal best of 16:51, an improvement of 23 seconds. His time moves him up to #9 on the school’s all-time list. Collier also advanced to next weekend’s semi-state meet as an individual. Senior Blake Dukes ran a superb race to place 52nd. Despite falling in the mud with 650m to go, Dukes got back up and finished the last race of his high school career in a personal best of 17:11, which was a 33-second improvement for him. He finishes his career as #16 on the school’s all-time list. Caden Baird ran confidently and achieved a personal best of 19:01 to finish 82nd. Senior Jacob Imbus finished 86th in 19:59. Jared Brown rounded out the scoring team, achieving a 30-second personal best of 20:03 to finish in 87th. Anthony Keppel also earned a 31-second personal best of 20:24 to finish 88th. Jacob Parsons, battling illness, was 89th in 21:01.
Knoper and Collier will compete next Saturday at the IHSAA Semi-State meet in Shelbyville.
