The Sagamore Conference Middle School Cross Country meet was held on a beautiful cool and sunny Thursday night at the Tri-West course. The Western Boone JH girls ran a fabulous race and achieved their 2nd straight Conference win, while the WeBo boys placed 5th out of 8 teams. Danville’s girls placed 2nd and Crawfordsville placed 3rd. Lebanon won the boys race and Danville placed 2nd and Sountmount placed 3rd.
With a strong set of personal time goals, the Lady Stars achieved most all of them including several personal record times. Finishing in 2nd place overall, Katheryn Rutherford started out well in 3rd place and by the 1K mark, she moved up and finished with a 12:15 time. The team’s next runners – Emma Mitchell (13:15), Hannah Haag (13:17) and Samantha Jones (13:18) – worked hard together and finished as a pack in 9th, 10th and 11th places. Rounding out the scoring was Bailey Haag in 17th place (13:54). Emily Parsons and Rosie Rogers both had very good races and finished in 25th and 35th, respectively. Both Haag sisters, Jones, and Rogers had personal lifetime best times. In the Reserve race, the WeBo girls had 2 runners who also had personal record (PR) times – Katherine Mateika and Adele Crockett.
In a very fast pasted race, the WeBo boys ran hard, but just could not over come some of the deeper teams in the Conference. Levi LaGrange led the Stars with an 8th place finish in 11:30. Not far behind was Lane Hardee in 13th place and in a lifetime PR time of 11:53. Rounding out the scorers for the team were Wyatt Barnett in 29th (12:42), Graham Cavins in a seasonal PR time of 13:10 (33rd place) and Collin Washburn in 40th place (13:41). Andre Gohier and Bryce Kopriva also ran well with times close to their best times. In the Reserve race, 6th grader Lincoln Rose improved by 43 seconds in his best race of the year.
The Stars’ last race of the season is at the Indiana State Middle School Cross Country meet on Saturday, September 29th starting at 10:30 am.
