The Western Boone junior high football teams split with the Mounties on Tuesday night. The 7th grade fell 18-6 while the 8th grade won 34-0.
In the 7th grade game, the two teams were well matched but the Mounties got the best of the Stars in the end. Southmont took a 6-0 lead into halftime and stretched it out in the second half. The Stars made a late push with a Cannon Brunes touchdown but the onside kick was unsuccessful. Cole Wiley and Jackson Grimes had big nights for the Stars and stepped up in some new positions and showed great effort throughout the night.
The 8th grade Stars jumped out to a hot start after scoring a Trevor Weakley touchdown on their first drive after receiving the opening kickoff. After a big stop on defense, the offense went back to work with another Weakley rushing touchdown. WeBo’s defense was the difference maker in this game as they never let Southmont get in a rhythm. Evan Crowley had a fumble recovery for a touchdown and Trevor Weakley had an interception. Weakley’s interception led to a Rowan Durbin touchdown pass to Korbin Smith. Ethan Bayles, Andrew Foster, and Perrin Emberton had big games for the Stars as well. WeBo also was efficient on special teams recovering a fumble on a punt and Jake Taylor went 4/5 on PATs.
The Stars will be back in action Tuesday as they will travel to Northridge Middle School to take on the Cougars starting at 5:30 pm.
