The Western Boone Junior High cross country teams ran in very hot and muggy conditions against Northridge Middle School on Monday night. Despite the heat, the Stars prevailed in both the girls’ and boys’ race. The boys won due to Northridge not having a complete team and the Lady Stars won outright.
All runners struggled in the weather, but still ran tough. The Lady Stars took the top 5 places, starting with Katheryn Rutherford (13:01) and continuing with Emma Mitchell in 2nd, Hannah Haag in 3rd, Samantha Jones in 4th and Emily Parsons in 5th.
The boys team showed dominance as well. Lane Hardee led the race from about half way through and finished in first with a time of 12:35 and Wyatt Barnett came in 2nd with a 12:53 time. Other good performances that rounded out the top places on the team were by Graham Cavins (4th), Collin Washburn (5th) and André Gohier (6th).
The Stars’ next race is at home on Wednesday, September 19th at 5:00 pm, running against Lebanon and Clinton Central.
