Under a very hot sun, the Western Boone Junior High cross country teams ran Tuesday afternoon at the Speedway course, coming away with a day of victories. The Stars’ boys team beat the Sparkplugs 24 to 32 and the WeBo ladies won 21 to 38.
The heat affected many of the runners, therefore most were not at their peak. Despite this, Lane Hardee came through in 2nd place in 12:46, just 6 seconds shy of beating his personal best. Collin Washburn was 4th and improved by a strong 46 seconds. Also having a great race was André Gohier (10th), who shaved off almost 2 minutes. Other scorers for the WeBo boys were Wyatt Barnett (3rd), Graham Cavins (6th) and Bryce Kopriva (9th).
For the Ladies, Katheryn Rutherford achieved a 1st place finish (13:00) after going back and forth with the top Speedway girl who finally succumb to Rutherford’s strength and tenacity. The Stars’ 3rd and 4th place runners – Emma Mitchell and Hannah Haag – also did well, running fairly close to their best times. Other team scorers were Samantha Jones (5th place) and Bailey Haag (8th).
Looking forward to a cooling evening, the Stars’ race next on Thurday, September 6th at 5:30pm at home, running against conference rivals Danville and Northridge.
