The Western Boone Junior High cross country teams had a solid showing on the Lavern Gibson Championship Course at Saturday morning’s Terre Haute Savings Bank Invitation. The Lady Stars finished 4th out of 8 complete teams, while the WeBo boys achieved 5th out of 7 complete teams – both having personal bests for the majority of the runners. North Clay Middle School took home top honors for both the girls’ and boys’ varsity races.
The Stars top girls runner, Katheryn Rutherford, came away with a 8th place finish in a seasonal PR time of 12:25. Personal best times were also seen by all the rest of the team, many of which were by over 30 seconds. Emma Mitchell finished in 20th with 14:08 and she was followed by a WeBo pack of Hannah Haag (27th), Emily Parsons (28th), and Samantha Jones (29th). Other PR performances were by Bailey Haag (36th) and Rosie Rogers (55th). As a team, the ladies improved by 4:39.
The WeBo boys also had many time improvements. Wyatt Barnett had a stellar race by leading the Stars in 16th place in a time of 12:35. Also with a huge improvement of 3:08 minutes was Collin Washburn in 14:41 (49th). Similar to the Lady Stars, the boys worked as pack to receive 42nd place (Landon Snodgrass), 43rd place (Graham Cavins), 44th place (Lane Hardee) and 46th place (Bryce Kopriva). Unfortunately, the team’s fastest runner, Levi LaGrange, had a nagging injury that prevented him from completing the race. The boys combined improvement was 6:04.
The Stars’ race next on Tuesday, September 4th at 5:00pm at the Speedway High School going against their Middle School.
