The Western Boone H.S. cross country team competed at the Landes Invitational at Hamilton Heights on Thursday evening. Both the boys and girls teams raced well and placed well. The Stars boys team earned second place with 62 points, just one point ahead of third-place Hamilton Heights (63 points). Lapel won the boys’ team competition with 45 points. The Lady Stars earned third place with 67 points behind second-place Lapel (57 points) and first-place Hamilton Heights (29 points). Finish times were fast for nearly everyone due to a short course.
In the boys’ race, Colton Collier and Blake Dukes ran strongly and were the Stars’ top-placing runners. Collier finished 3rd in 16:29, and Dukes was 5th in 17:11. Also scoring for the Stars were Timmy Coffman (14th), Caden Baird (16th), and Jacob Imbus (26th). Jacob Parsons (38th), Anthony Keppel (39th), Nik Pierce (45th), and Jared Brown (50th) also ran well.
In the girls’ race Audrey Knoper raced hard and finished a strong 2nd in a time of 19:52. Sydney Haag also ran strongly and finished 11th in 21:28. Naomi Reid ran with confidence and performed excellently, finishing 20th in 22:41. Jenna Mahin (24th) and Jordan Randolph (27th) rounded out the scoring team. Izzy Moore improved substantially from the previous meet and finished 30th in 23:56. Bekah Truby (43rd), Krisha Griffith (48th), and Hannah Reid (68th) also ran well.
The Stars will run Saturday at the Terre Haute Savings Bank State Preview Meet starting at 8:30 am.
