Thursday night, the 7th and 8th grade football teams opened their seasons against the Zionsville Eagles. The 7th grade team had an uphill climb as they fell behind early in their contest as they head into halftime 22-0. The Stars tighten down their defense as they kept the Eagles in check for most of the second half. As they slowed down the Eagles attack, they could not put any points on the board. The Stars ended up falling to the Eagles 28-0.
The 8th grade team followed as they look to start their season strong. The Stars gave up an early touchdown in the first half. They responded with a forced fumble by Ryan Taylor, while Blake Miller scooped up the ball to give the Stars the equalizer to tie the game 6-6 going into halftime. The second half was a defensive struggle. It came down to the last play of regulation, with the Eagles scoring as time expired to take the game 12-6.
The Stars look to bounce back as they will travel to Sheridan on Tuesday to take on the Blackhawks. The 7th grade will start at 5:30 pm, with the 8th grade following.
