Western Boone varsity softball team got out to a 4-run lead by the 7th inning and held on for a 5-4 victory over Guerin Catholic on Friday to push their record to 17-6 on the season. The Lady Stars earned the victory despite allowing Guerin Catholic to score three runs in the seventh inning. Heather Clark pitched the Lady Stars to victory. She lasted 6 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out three and walking zero. Hannah Redlin threw 1/3 of an inning in relief out of the bullpen. The Lady Stars collected seven hits in the contest. Alana Raby and Briley Burns managed multiple hits for the Lady Stars.
The Lady Stars also played the Lady Wildcats of Lawrence North Saturday but were unable to overcome an early deficit dropping the game 5-0. Hannah Redlin was credited the loss allowing five runs on five hits over four innings striking out 3. The Lady Stars defense didn’t commit an error and Paige Armstrong had 2 hits but the Lady Stars couldn’t break onto the board after twice leaving basses loaded.
The Lady Stars will travel to West Lafayette tonight for a 5 pm start against West Lafayette.
The Lady Stars JV won in walk-off fashion against the Lawrence North’s JV Saturday 8-7. The Lady Stars entered the 7th needing 2 runs to take the lead and that’s what they got after a Ryan Bulter single to seal the win. Mackenzie Covington gets the win.
The JV team will be back in action with the varsity team tonight against West Lafayette.
