The Western Boone girl’s basketball team were in action Friday and Saturday night as they hosted the Sugar Creek Classic. The Stars faced the Southmont Mounties on Friday night. The Stars topped the Mounties 48-26. Leading the Stars in scoring was Madi Jones with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Lauryn Florey tallied 11 points and Kara Brewer added 8 points. Maggie Klingensmith was a force on the boards as they pulled in 12 rebounds.
The win against the Mounties makes it Western Boone vs. North Montgomery in the Sugar Creek Classic Championship. The Stars are looking to make it 9 consecutive Sugar Creek Championships.
The Stars jumped the Chargers right from the start as they ended the first quarter with a 13-4 lead. The Stars maintained the lead throughout the whole game as they took a 24-13 lead into the break. The Chargers tried to make it a close game as they cut the lead to 29-24 in the third, but the Stars answered with a 10-2 run to extend the lead 39-26 to end the third quarter. The Stars never looked back as they win the Sugar Creek Classic Championship for the 9th year in a row. Leading for the Stars was Madi Jones with 21 points. Lauryn Florey added 15 points while Kara Brewer also added 11 points.
Jones and Lauryn Florey were the two Stars that made the All-Tournament team along with North Montgomery’s Emily Sennett, Southmont’s Avery Hess, Crawfordsville’s Addie Laskowski. Jones earns the honor of being the Sugar Creek Classic MVP.
The Stars will be back in action Tuesday as they host Westfield starting at 6 pm.
