Katie Potter, a senior at Western Boone Jr./Sr. High School, has been recognized as a First Team Academic All-State selection for cross country.
Potter was nominated by her coach and chosen from among runners throughout the state by the Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches based on her academic achievements. A cumulative, unweighted GPA of 3.5 or higher and a combined SAT score of 1200 or composite ACT score of 26 or higher was required to be eligible for consideration, and Potter handily exceeded those standards.
A 2017 Western Boone cross country team captain, Potter has earned and maintained a position near the top of her class while taking multiple advanced-placement and honors classes and participating in athletics. She was inducted into the National Honor Society as a sophomore and is also active in several school groups and volunteers in the community. She has earned two varsity letters in cross country, two in track, and one in basketball. The daughter of Patrick and Laurie Potter, Katie plans to attend either Purdue University or the University of Kentucky to study biochemistry with aspirations of becoming a neurosurgeon.
Western Boone juniors Blake Dukes and Jacob Imbus were also recognized as Academic All-State Honorable Mention selections.
