The Western Boone high school cross country team competed at the Sagamore Conference meet on Saturday morning at Southmont. The Western Boone girls team finished 2nd with 71 points, and the boys team was 4th with 89 points. Crawfordsville won for the girls with 15 points, and Danville won for the boys with 56 points.
In the girls’ race, Lauryn Florey was the top finisher for the Lady Stars in 7th in 21:53. Jordan Randolph ran a determined race and unleashed a strong kick at the finish to get 10th in 22:28. Both Florey and Randolph earned 1st Team All-Conference honors by finishing in the top 10. Two other Western Boone runners earned 2nd Team All-Conference honors by finishing in the top 20: Mollie Gourley in 15th, and Katie Potter in 20th. Lizzie Hendricks rounded out the scoring team in 24th. Also running for the Lady Stars were Josie Mahin (25th) and Krisha Griffith (32nd).
In the boys’ race, Colton Collier and Blake Dukes led the way for the Stars. In a sprint at the finish, Collier placed 8th in 17:54, and Dukes ended up 10th in 17:55. Both earned 1st Team All-Conference honors. Hunter Martin was next for the Stars in 21st. Rounding out the scoring team were two freshmen who both achieved personal best times. Nik Pierce ran 18:55, a 2-second personal best, which earned him 24th; and Timmy Coffman ran 19:05, an improvement of 26 seconds, which earned him 26th. Caden Baird (34th) and Chandler Wojcik (45th) also ran well for the Stars.
In the boys’ JV race, Jacob Imbus and Benton Foxworthy ran inspired races and finished 1-2. Imbus earned the victory in 19:18 by running more than a minute faster than last year on this course and only 8 seconds shy of his best time. Foxworthy took 2nd in 20:08, which was a personal best for him by 2 seconds. Also running well in the JV race were Anthony Keppel (12th), Jacob Parsons (16th), and Drew Hendricks (20th).
The Stars will compete at the IHSAA Sectional at the Tippecanoe Amphitheater in West Lafayette next Saturday.
