The Western Boone high school cross country team traveled to the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute on Saturday for the Terre Haute Savings Bank State Preview Meet. The WeBo boys earned a surprise third-place team finish with 100 points in the Class 1A-3A division out of 13 teams. Brown County won with 51 points. The Lady Stars team was incomplete.
Leading the way for the boys were Colton Collier and Hunter Martin, who finished 10th and 11th, respectively, in 18:08.9 and 18:16.9. Also running well was Blake Dukes, who took 14th place in 18:31.5. Nik Pierce (30th) and Caden Baird (39th) rounded out the scoring team. Two runners achieved personal bests: Timmy Coffman lowered his time by 20 seconds to finish in 20:23.8, and Chandler Wojcik bettered his time by 13 seconds to run 20:46.8. The team’s third-place finish is the boys’ highest finish at this meet.
In the girls’ race, Lauryn Florey was the top runner for the Lady Stars; she finished 10th in 21:54.7. Also running were Mollie Gourley (25th), Jordan Randolph (40th), and Krisha Griffith (54th). The Lady Stars were one runner short of having a scoring team.
The Stars will travel to North Montgomery on Thursday for the Charger Classic.
