The Western Boone high school cross country team competed at the Ben Davis XC Invitational on Saturday morning against a field of more than two dozen teams, including of a number of perennial powerhouses. The boys’ team was 18th with 523 points, and the girls’ team was 19th with 532 points.
Despite the team placings, the Stars had numerous outstanding performances. The highlight of the meet was the setting of a new school record by senior Alexis Goglia. Her time of 20:46.7 bettered her previous record by 0.3 seconds. Also running exceptionally well was freshman Krisha Griffith who improved her time by 1:06 to achieve a personal best of 21:46.3. Griffith’s time moves her to #3 on the WeBo girls’ 5K all-time list. Holly Foxworthy also ran a personal best by 0:20 to finish in 23:37.8. Brittany Hieston, running in the varsity race for the first time this season, took full advantage of the opportunity, improved her time by 1:02, and finished fourth for the team in a personal best time of 25:21.
In the boys’ race, Hunter Martin led the way for the Stars with a solid time of 17:27.2. Two boys earned personal bests: Cody Rice improved by 0:30 to run 18:36.4, and Jacob Imbus lowered his time by 0:16 to finish in 21:00.5.
In the JV girls’ race, both of Western Boone’s runners earned big personal bests. Olivia Richardson surprised even herself by cutting off 2:45 to finish in 27:49.8. And Heather Clark trimmed 1:26 off of her previous best to finish in 32:41.2.
The Stars will compete at the Tiger Cross Country Invitational on Thursday at Lebanon.
