On Saturday, the Western Boone high school cross country team competed at the Terre Haute Savings Bank State Preview Meet, which was held at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute.
The Lady Stars had a very good showing as a team, placing 3rd out of 11 teams in the girls’ class 1A-3A race. Mater Dei won with 37 points, followed by Seeger with 86 and Western Boone with 104.
Two Western Boone girls placed in the top ten, and three of the Lady Stars’ five scoring runners achieved personal bests; both of these factors set the stage for the team’s high finish. Alexis Goglia led the way with a 5th-place finish in 22:09, followed by Krisha Griffith in 10th in a personal best of 22:51. Lizzie Hendricks had a very good race and earned the day’s biggest personal best; she lowered her time by 48 seconds to finish in 23:56, which was good for 22nd place. Holly Foxworthy also achieved a personal best of 24:26 and finished in 29th. Kylie Dobbs rounded out the scoring team in 43rd. One other girl earned a personal best, and that was Heather Clark who trimmed 42 seconds off her time to finish in 35:37.
On the boys’ side, Hunter Martin ran in the big-school race with many of the top runners in the state. He finished in a very good time of 17:37. The rest of the boys ran in the class 1A-3A race. Cody Rice ran a strong race and finished in 19:25, which was a season-best time for him. Alex Hale also ran a season-best time of 22:08.
The Stars will compete at the Charger Classic at North Montgomery on Thursday.
