The Western Boone cross country team traveled to Hamilton Heights to compete at the Landes Invitational on Thursday evening. Running again in very warm conditions, the Stars had a strong showing, with the boys’ team placing 3rd out of 13 teams and the girls’ team 4th out of 12 teams. Pendleton Heights won the boys’ team competition, and North Montgomery won the girls’.
The highlight of the meet was Hunter Martin’s victory in the boys’ race. Running confidently, Martin led from start to finish and won in a time of 17:53. Matthew VanDokkenburg also ran well and finished in 5th in 18:12. Other scoring runners for the Stars were Cody Rice in 26th, Nick Biddle in 35th, and Jacob Imbus in 47th.
Alexis Goglia led the way for the Lady Stars and finished in 6th in 22:36. Krisha Griffith was next for the girls in 15th, followed by Lizzie Hendricks in 22nd and Holly Foxworthy in 23rd. Kylie Dobbs rounded out the scoring team in 33rd.
Brittany Hieston was the only WeBo runner to earn a personal best, and it was a big one. She bettered her previous time by more than five minutes to finish in 27:32. Other athletes who were near their personal bests were Hendricks, who missed hers by just two seconds, and Foxworthy, who missed hers by only five seconds.
The Stars will compete at the Terre Haute Savings Bank State Preview Meet on Saturday.
