The Western Boone high school cross country team competed at the Danville Hokum Karem on Saturday. The boys’ team was 14th and the girls’ team was 11th. Hamilton Southeastern won both the boys’ and girls’ team competitions.
The Stars’ highest-finishing pair in the two-person relay was Hunter Martin and Matthew VanDokkenburg. Martin led the field through the first mile in 4:57, and he and VanDokkenburg finished with a combined time of 32:17 for the 6-mile course, which was good for 16th place. Other pairs that scored for the Stars were Nick Biddle and Cody Rice in 43rd and Jacob Imbus and Alex Hale in 64th.
The pair of Lizzie Hendricks and Krisha Griffith was the top-finishing pair for the Lady Stars. Their combined time of 43:32 earned them 28th place. Other pairs that scored for the Lady Stars were Abbigail Merrill and Holly Foxworthy in 40th and Josie Mahin and Olivia Richardson in 52nd. Also running well was the pair of Heather Clark and Brittany Hieston in 56th.
Chris Thomas ran the open 2-mile race and finished in 16:25.
The Stars will compete at the Leap Into September Invitational at Southmont on Tuesday.
