Western Boone High School
Frankfort High School
Western Boone Boys Soccer came out on top after a down to the wire, back and forth battle with Frankfort on Thursday. Trailing 0-1 at halftime, the Stars needed to bring a much higher level of intensity if they wanted to get back into the game, and they did just that. Only 5 minutes in to the second half Jack Fortner found the back of the net from 20 yards out, and 2 minutes later he scored again to put the Stars on top 2-1.
Frankfort was not done, however, scoring to equalize only 5 minutes later. The Hotdogs then scored again with 20 minutes remaining to regain the lead 3-2. Daniel Collins capitalized on a penalty kick awarded for getting fouled inside the box, bringing the score back to a tie. Both teams had chances to get back on top but neither were able to score until with 1 minute remaining, Jack Fortner hit the goal for the third time giving his team a lead very late in the game. The Stars held on the last 60 seconds to win the game.
Andrew Knecht had a solid game behind his defense, making some excellent saves at very critical times to keep his team alive. He had 11 saves on the game. Miles Clutter recorded an assist on the night.
The Stars remain undefeated on the season and are 2-0 in the Sagamore Conference. They will take a break from conference play to face Rossville and Cascade next week on Tuesday and Thursday.
