News · Webo gets homecoming win vs. Southmont

The Western Boone Stars hosted the Southmont Mounties on a spectacular night for football and, despite numerous penalties, the Stars were able to put together a dominating performance scoring a 35-14 homecoming victory. The Stars got down to business early embarking on a 10-play, 59-yard drive that saw senior quarterback Logan Wethington hook up with junior Riggs Baxter on a quick slant for a big first down only to take a pitch on the next play around the right side for a touchdown. Zach Martin’s kick at the 6:55 mark gave Western Boone an early 7-0 lead. After the two teams traded punts, Southmont answered with their own 16-play, 50 yard drive that saw the Mounties drive deep into Star territory. On third and goal from the 4 yard line, Southmont turned to their workhorse Nathaniel Farabee. The Sophomore running back literally met Star defenders Clay Biesecker and Colton DeBard face to face as the WeBo duo met in the backfield to deny Farabee’s his scoring attempt. Biesecker would go on to lead the Stars in tackling notching 9 on the game. On the ensuing fourth and goal play, Devon Burton showed flashes of elusiveness while scrambling to the sideline only to throw the ball back across the field to a wide open receiver in the end zone. A failed two point conversion left the score at 7-6. When the Mounties stopped the Stars on their next possession forcing a punt, they found themselves in position to assume control of the game. On the next play however, Burton’s pass down the middle of the field was intercepted by Baxter giving WeBo a first and 10 on their own 39 yard line.
