Stars Rally to Complete Sweep of Warriors

4/25 Recap vs Danville The Western Boone Lady Stars proved their mettle in an epic comeback twice Thursday evening to earn a series sweep of the Danville Warriors 15-10. The Stars started off slow going 3 up 3 down in the first inning and then allowed the Warriors to plate 7 runs while committing multiple errors in the field. The Stars answered back scoring 6 in the top of the 2nd highlighted with back-to-back doubles by Kirstin McCormick and Emma Shirley. The Defense stiffened a bit only allowing 3 additional runs over the next 4 innings. With time running short and down by 4 the Stars mounted their second comeback scoring 4 on RBI hits by Mickey Burns and Kenzlei Mathews to knot things up at 10 going to the bottom of the 6th inning. The Warriors threatened in their half of the 6th after another error but ultimately were held scoreless in the inning by relief pitcher Burns and a stellar defensive play by Ally Lewis. The Stars bats stayed hot taking the lead on a two out, two RBI single by Burns and added to the lead on a fielder’s choice by Ally Lewis two batters later and added two more for insurance on a line drive single by Dottie Wilson. Gabby Lewis came back to close things out where she started the evening pitching a scoreless 7th inning. A Lewis, G Lewis, Shirley, Burns, McCormick, and Mikayla Naanos all recorded multiple hits in the win. The Stars used 3 separate pitchers in the game starting G Lewis who was relieved by A Lewis who pitched for 3.2 innings until Burns came in and pitched 1.2 scoreless innings. The Stars improved their conference record to 7-1 on the season and are tied with Tri-West atop the Sagamore Conference. The Stars are back in action as they travel to Speedway to take on the Sparkplugs tomorrow under the lights with a 7pm start.
