The Western Boone high school cross country team competed at the Charger Classic on Thursday at North Montgomery.  Both the boys’ and girls’ teams performed well, with nearly every runner running faster this year than last year on the same course.  The WeBo boys finished 3rd out of 12 teams with 99 points, and the girls were 2nd out of 8 teams with 54 points.  Fountain Central won for the boys with 48 points, and Hamilton Heights won for the girls with 23 points.

Colton Collier and Blake Dukes led the way for the Stars and finished just 1 second apart in 17:59 and 18:00, respectively.  They were 8th and 9th overall.  Hunter Martin followed closely in 11th in 18:22.  Timmy Coffman achieved a personal best time by 31 seconds to finish next for the Stars in 19:53, which earned him 33rd place.  Caden Baird rounded out the scoring team in 41st.  Two other Stars runners earned personal bests:  Chandler Wojcik trimmed 7 seconds off his time to run 20:40, and Jacob Parsons cut 3 seconds off his time to run 21:39.  Coffman and Wojcik have achieved personal bests at each meet so far this season.

In the girls’ race, Lauryn Florey was the Lady Stars’ top runner.  She finished in 21:25, which earned her 4th place.  Jenna Mahin was next for WeBo in 11th in 22:14.  Jordan Randolph and Mollie Gourley followed closely in 22:30 and 22:45, respectively, and were 14th and 15th.  Katie Potter had a break-out race and cut an impressive 1:20 off her previous best to achieve a new personal best of 23:05, which was good for 23rd.

The Stars will compete Saturday at the Ben Davis XC Invitational.
